I am safe. I am well. So are the kids.
We are shaken, but safe.

At least four of these critters leaped out of nowhere as we were headed south on US 231 near 1000N in Putnam County, just south of Fincastle.
Less than 100 yards from where Taylor rolled.
I didn't have time to think. I had nowhere to swerve. They literally blocked the entire width of the road in front of me. I was traveling at 65mph, kept pointing straight, and wound up locking-up my non-abs brakes for the last few yards, stopping, at most, 2 yards from a standing deer.
I arrived at home, 20 minutes later, still shaking. And Thing1 quaking because he's got a fever. And opened the door to find wonderful ways to comfort away the scare.
The Chocolate High Holiday came a day early here!

Thank you,
tenacious_snail , for the yum, and the squeee, and your call... your voice is always such a comfort.
I have settled down, and made sure Thing1's medication is working (he's clearly feeling better already).
On the last bit of our journey after the scare, a delightful song came into the mp3 player's random rotation. What a perfect day to hear it, and what a perfect time:

As
tenacious_snail posted earlier, the past weekend was full of unexpected, unplanned delight. For as much as a 2-night visit makes an itinerary nearly necessary, we wound up ditching some plans... with entirely happy consequences.
Unexpected, was the bonus bunch of LJers at Hobee's... and it was a joy to meet you all (this morning, I friended those who weren't already in my f-list). I hope that we have the opportunity to reconnect when I'm back in the bay area with my boys.
It's taken a while to shake off the jet lag... that's finally gone.
But the smile on my face isn't.
